Restoring lawns through core aeration, thatching and over-seeding

Do you have brown and yellow spots or bare areas in your lawn?  The cold winter weather in the Pacific Northwest can be hard on your turf areas.  In general, most lawns need to be replaced or renovated every 7-10 years.  Lawn renovations are far less expensive than sod replacement.  Our lawn renovation program is a 4-step program designed to get your grass looking lush and green. 

1) Thatch removal:   Thatch is a layer of dead shoots, stems and roots that build up between the grass and soil surface.  When thatch builds up to a thickness of more than 1/2 inch, it is beneficial to remove, as it restricts water penetration and the movement of nutrients into the soil.   At NW Landscape Management, Inc., we remove the thatch, cleanup the debris and dispose of it.

2) Aerate:  Lawn aeration is a mechanical process which removes plugs of grass and soil 2-3 inches deep into the soil to improve the air, water and nutrient exchange within the root system of the lawn. 

3) Fertilize with lime:  Providing a fertilizer with lime will help to correct the PH balance in the lawn, making it more difficult for moss to grow.

4) Over-seeding:  7-14 days after the thatch removal, aeration, and fertilizer, over-seeding the lawn is recommended to fill in bare areas and help create a lush and green lawn.
